Flamingo Fundraiser PDF Print E-mail

Flamingo season is officially underway!  The REL Band is kicking off their "You've Been Flocked" Fundraiser.  Flamingos have been seen migrating towards East Texas and will begin roosting in yards starting February 13th.  We want to keep these flocks moving until the end of their season as they will be moving away from our area about March 31st.  The best way to keep them moving is to fill out a Flamingo Flocking Work Order and join in the fun of choosing where the flock will roost for a couple of days.  All money raised from this fundraiser will go to help pay for private lessons for the REL Band Program.

How Flocking Works

You can flock a friend for a donation of only $20. Upon receipt of your order form and donation, a band parent (with the help of students) will secretly place a flock of REL Band Flamingos in the requested friend’s front yard. Birds will be delivered and will remain in the yard for no more than 48 hours. The flockor will be notified when the birds have migrated towards their requested friends address. A notice will be attached explaining the removal policy, forward ordering, and flamingo insurance information. Sorry, our birds may not migrate outside of the TISD boundaries, be placed on public property, or at an apartment complex.

How to Flock a Friend

You can fill out the Flocking Work Order Form located under the band support/fundraiser section of the website.  Once you have filled out your form, hit the "submit" button and a confirmation email will be sent to you.  From there, you can either turn in your donation to locker 007 in the band hall or someone will contact you to make an arrangement for payment. Please make all checks payable to REL Band.

How Flamingos Are Removed

The REL Band Flamingos will be removed from your yard within 48 hours of their placement, whether you choose to make a donation or not. A donation of $10 is requested to have the REL Band Flamingos removed from your property OR you can choose to have the flock forwarded to a friend for a donation of $20. Please fill out the Flamingo Flocking Ransom Note with your request and contact the REL Band Flamingo Rescue Hotline at 903-372-4199. Please make checks payable to the REL Band. Attach check to the Flocking Ransom Note, which will be picked up with the flamingos.

How to Avoid Being Flocked

You may buy insurance for the entire flocking season. Without insurance….remember you can be flocked several times! To Purchase one of our insurance options listed below, please note your option on the Flamingo Flocking Work Order form located on line.

PRE-FLAMINGO INSURANCE: Coverage for people who have not yet been flocked is $20. You will be protected throughout the entire flamingo season.

POST-FLAMINGO INSURANCE: If you have already been flocked and do not desire to look at anymore beady-eyed flamingos, you may forward the flock and purchase coverage for a donation of $10 to insure no future flocking for the remainder of the season.

Flocking is done in good spirit and in not meant to be malicious. To make this fundraiser successful, we must have willing participants. The removal does not require payment, but a donation to benefit the REL Band would be greatly appreciated. Please note that all donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be given upon request. The Flamingos are precious property to us and we want to keep them in our possession so all can enjoy.
